As a highly skilled professional in multidisciplinary environments, Ces frequently assumes the role of lead consultant, expertly coordinating the needs of user groups, stakeholders, and project teams. Keirin Hoad

Director

Keirin is a registered architect who has extensive experience working on both regional and international projects across the medical, resort, and hotel industries. He has played a key role in the planning and delivery of complex healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized medical centers, ensuring that designs align with industry standards, patient needs, and operational efficiency. His deep understanding of healthcare environments allows him to create spaces that enhance functionality, patient care, and overall user experience.

Specializing in master planning, stakeholder briefing, design development, and documentation management, Keirin has successfully led multidisciplinary teams from concept through to detailed design, site observation, and contract administration.

With a strong focus on the commercial, education, government, and hospitality sectors, as well as medical and healthcare projects, Keirin brings a strategic and collaborative approach to every project. His expertise in coordinating joint design and documentation teams ensures seamless project execution, while his proficiency in contract formulation and administration guarantees efficient and effective project delivery.

Andrew McNally

Director

Andrew is a Registered Architect and a founding director of APG Architects, bringing extensive experience across multiple sectors. Over the course of his career, he has led projects from initial client briefing through to project handover, ensuring high-quality outcomes that align with client visions and industry standards.

With a strong competency in multidisciplinary environments, Andrew often takes on the role of lead consultant, effectively managing the coordination between user groups, stakeholders, and project teams. His strategic approach to project delivery ensures seamless communication, efficiency, and successful execution across a diverse range of developments.

Andrew’s expertise and commitment to excellence have been recognized within the industry, earning him award recognition from the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA), Property Council New Zealand, and Master Builders. His work demonstrates a strong emphasis on functionality, innovation, and design excellence.

Nicola Lucas

Project Manager

Nat Dip (Arch.)

Nicola brings a wealth of experience to her role as Project Manager at APG Architects, having worked on projects across healthcare, hospitals, emergency departments, laboratories, and commercial developments. Her career spans fitouts from intimate office spaces to large-scale, highly technical facilities—each requiring careful planning, clear communication, and meticulous attention to detail.

With a background that includes time spent working for a main commercial contractor, Nicola understands the demands of construction from all sides. She is known for her ability to coordinate seamlessly between project directors, consultants, and client stakeholders, ensuring every stage—from concept to completion—runs smoothly.

On site, Nicola takes the lead in contract administration, construction observation, and defect inspections. Her practical knowledge, collaborative approach, and respect within the industry make her a trusted presence on any project, whether delivering a fast-paced emergency department upgrade or a high-spec commercial fitout.

Sandra Torres del Castillo

Architect (Peru Registered)

BArch (Peru)

Sandra, originally from Peru, has a broad architectural background spanning educational facilities, operating theatres, and commercial developments. Her three-year architectural thesis explored flexible spaces for the arts, innovative library typologies, and the integration of public spaces—establishing a strong foundation for her adaptive, community-focused design approach.

With a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating dynamic, user-centred environments, Sandra has contributed to the design and delivery of award-winning projects, including Surgeons on Clarence, a new endoscopy theatre recognised in the 2025 NZIA Waikato Bay of Plenty Awards (Commercial category) and the 2025 Resene Colour Maestro Awards. She is highly skilled in architectural documentation, ensuring every project is executed with precision and clarity.

Sandra’s expertise covers all stages of the design process—from concept and detailed design to interior design and project coordination. Her ability to combine creativity with functionality results in spaces that are visually compelling, highly adaptable, and tailored to the evolving needs of their users.

Thomas Brock

Architectural Technician

Nat Dip (Arch.Tech.)

Thomas is a skilled technician and BIM guru, having produced detailed documentation for a number of commercial projects including warehouses, car sales yards as well as education, health and residential projects.

With a robust knowledge across varying construction methodologies, NZ Standards, and the NZ Building Code, Thomas is a fastidious technician who brings a high level of detailing and logical methods to the varied projects he is involved in.

Complimenting his documentation skills, Thomas' role extends to coordinating and reviewing consultants various documents, to provide a seamless connection between all parties work before the documentation is issued for construction.

Lydia Yan

Architectural Technician

Nat Dip (Arch.Tech.)

Lydia is originally from Shanghai before moving to New Zealand a few years ago. With a background in business and human resources, she brings a unique perspective to her architectural work. She has built solid experience across a wide range of projects, including a large-scale residential home on Waiheke Island and multiple Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) and St John facilities throughout the country.

Lydia’s strengths lie in architectural documentation, detailed drawing work, and understanding construction methods. She’s known for being highly detail-oriented and thrives in a team environment.

At APG, Lydia plays a key role in coordinating Revit models with external consultants, managing BIM workflows, and resolving any clashes between models to ensure smooth and efficient project delivery.

Her hands-on, practical approach combined with a sharp eye for detail means Lydia helps keep projects on track and delivered to a high standard. She’s passionate about making sure every part of the design process runs as seamlessly as possible, contributing to the success of the whole team.

Camila Renault

Architect (Brazil Registered)

Camila is a registered architect and urban designer in her native Brazil, with more than 20 years of experience working as both a designer and design manager on the consultant and client side. She has led projects from concept through to procurement and site observation, with extensive expertise in education and healthcare fit-outs and refurbishments, as well as multi-unit residential developments across New Zealand.

Her career has included the design management of master plans, urban design, and environmental and resource consent approvals for planned communities in Brazil, along with the design of institutional buildings and the interior design and contract management of private residential renovations. In 2025, she was a finalist and placed in the top three in the Interior Awards for her work on the Te Ao Mārama Campus in Porirua for Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

In addition to her architectural work, Camila is a talented watercolour artist, bringing the same passion, creativity, and attention to detail to her art as she does to her design practice.

Arthur Joe

Principal Architect

Arthur is an award-winning architect who builds strong working relationships with clients to create thoughtful, practical design solutions. With broad experience across commercial, education, and healthcare projects, he brings a calm and clear-headed approach to even the most complex briefs.

He is known for finding smart, sustainable answers within tight budgets and deadlines. He enjoys the challenge of balancing creativity with practicality, always aiming to deliver buildings that work well and feel right for the people who use them.

Collaborative by nature, Arthur leads projects with clarity and purpose. He values open dialogue and brings strategic thinking to the table, working closely with clients, consultants, and teams to get the best out of every project.

Retha Olivier

MArch, BArch

Henrietta (Retha) is part of the APG team as a Graduate Architect. Having relocated from Australia, she brings a wide range of experience from architecture through to cabinetry making and is an avid traveller. She offers a unified blend of education, technical proficiency, and project based experience that enhances APG’s multidisciplinary team.

She supports the team through technical drafting and a clear understanding of building codes and standards. She brings precision and clarity to every stage of the architectural process from design through to detailed documentation.

Retha contributes to APG’s reputation for delivering practical, sustainable, and value driven solutions across diverse sectors including residential, commercial, healthcare, and more helped by her skills to connect with the firm’s broader service offering.

Since joining the firm, Retha has embraced a steep learning curve, rapidly integrating into APG’s workflows and design culture. She brings a great deal of culture and joy into her community and infuses that sense of joy and beauty into everything she does.
